Project Description

The Brief

Western Australian-based robotics company Nexxis is a pioneer of cutting-edge, end-to-end robotic solutions for national and international clients across a range of industries including energy, mining, space, shipbuilding, transportation, construction, chemicals and defence.

The company is assisting industries work more safely, productively and efficiently by applying world-leading robotic technologies to everyday challenges.

Nexxis engaged Spoke to develop a grant proposal for funding from the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre’s (AMGC) Commercialisation Fund, to assist the company to bring its Magneto robotic technology and platforms to market. Robots such as the spider-like Magneto crawler are revolutionising the approach to confined space entry and in the energy, infrastructure, defence and mining industries – putting West Australian innovation on the global map.

Nexxis’s funding submission to the Federal Government’s Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre was successful with the company awarded a $675,000 grant for the commercialisation of Magneto. Following a successful application, Spoke developed and executed a strategic media campaign to promote the grant being awarded.

Our Approach

  • Spoke deployed its senior communications experts to deliver the project
  • Worked with Nexxis subject matter experts and management to develop, refine and submit the comprehensive funding application
  • On learning of the grant being secured, Spoke developed a customised newsflow and media plan to capitalise on the announcement, targeting business and trade publications with a focus on the resources sector
  • Leveraged our extensive media database of local, national and international business and mining journalists to secure positive coverage across print and online media
  • Worked closely with external stakeholders including the Federal Minister for Industry, Science and Innovation to to maximise coverage and publicity opportunities

The Results

  • Nexxis was awarded a $675,000 grant as part of the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre’s (AMGC) Commercialisation Fund to support commercialisation of the company’s Magneto robotic platform
  • As part of the commercialisation project, Nexxis is creating local jobs, gaining new market exposure and continuing to drive innovation in the fast-emerging robotics and tech space
  • The funding will help accelerate the speed to commercialisation while allowing Nexxis to develop and scale the workforce required to be a global robotic technology company
  • Significant media exposure for Nexxis generated across targeted national and international media
  • Coverage secured in key industry publications including International Mining, Australia’s Mining Monthly, Australian Mining, Energy News Bulletin, Safe to Work and Engineering 360
  • Spoke provided introductions and site visits of Nexxis’s headquarters for State and Federal politicians including Don Punch MLA, Minister for Innovation and ICT
